By Steve Gonzalez -Edwardsville Bureau

Charles O. Carlisle filed a Jones Act suit against National Maintenance & Repair in Madison County Circuit Court Jan. 25, seeking damages in excess of $100,000.

He claims that on Jan. 28, 2004, he was a supervisor and member of the crew of a motor vessel and barge which was operated by National while afloat on the Mississippi River.

Carlisle claims he was injured while fitting bulkheads into a barge hold.

According to Carlisle, National failed to provide him with a reasonably safe place to work, failed to provide adequate assistance, failed to warn of the dangers in the area he was assigned to work, failed to supervise his work and failed to provide him with adequate equipment to safely perform the tasks assigned to him.

He claims he was made sick, sore, lame and disordered and suffered extensive injuries to his arm and hand which caused him to lose wages, suffer a loss of earning capacity, experience pain and suffering and to incur medical expenses.

Carlisle is represented by Robert Gregory of East Alton.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder.
