GM and Jack Schmitt sued over Bravada's restraint system

General Motors and Jack Schmitt Oldsmobile-Cadillac of O'Fallon are being sued by a woman who was ejected from her Oldsmobile Bravada after the vehicle left a roadway and rolled over on July 31, 2006, on northbound US Route 48 in Macon County.

Barbara Owens filed suit June 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court claiming the Bravada was defectively manufactured and designed in that the seatbelt released during a rollover sequence.

Represented by Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin in Belleville and Ted Gianaris of SimmonsCooper in East Alton, Owens is seeking in excess of $200,000 in damages.

Owens claims severe and permanently disabling injuries to her neck, back, head and body as a whole.

She claims General Motors failed to warn her and others of the Bravada's dangerous conditions.

She claims the auto dealer sold her a vehicle with a restraint system which would allow the seatbelt to release inadvertently when it knew or should have known that such was the case.
