Ambulance driver sued

7/17/2008 7:13 AM

A Glen Carbon woman was injured when a Laughlin Ambulance allegedly collided with her July 19, 2007.

She filed a lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle and his employer alleging he failed to keep his vehicle under proper control.

Joyce Lakes claims Brian Brinson, a Laughlin employee, collided with her at the intersection of Route 159 and Glen Carbon Road.

Lakes filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court on July 10, seeking damages less than $50,000. She is represented by Rodney Caffey of The Lakin Law Firm.

Lakes claims Brinson was operating his vehicle within the scope of his employment with Laughlin Ambulance.

She claims Brinson was negligent by failing to keep his vehicle under proper control, speeding, failed to brake, steer or otherwise maneuver his vehicle so as not to collide, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield the right of way.

Lakes claims the collision caused extensive injuries to her right arm, right leg and back which caused and will continue to cause a loss of earning capacity, pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement and medical expenses.

The case is awaiting mandatory arbitration.
