Soft Touch Lounge patron claims he was attacked by bouncers

7/24/2008 11:32 AM

Soft Touch Lounge in East St. Louis is being sued by a man who claims he was attacked last year by the night club's security staff and unknown assailants.

Anthony Walker II alleges he was discovered unconscious in the bushes outside the business by East St. Louis police after the attack Nov. 9, 2007, according to a suit filed July 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Walker is represented by Jarrod P. Beasley of the Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville. He is seeking in excess of $100,000 in damages from the lounge, claiming it failed to supervise activities of its bouncers.

He also claims the lounge is negligent for, among other things, failing to render aid after the beating.

His suit also claims Soft Touch Lounge violated the Dramshop Act, which prohibits establishments from selling alcohol to intoxicated patrons.

"That the unknown attackers, in an intoxicated state, did unlawfully and without provocation, attack, batter and beat the plaintiff," the complaint states. "That the plaintiff suffered severe injuries as a result of this battery."
